Self-Motivation: The Desire to Succeed

It’s 6 in the morning. The alarm clock is buzzing, and you’re thinking to yourself, “What’s the point in getting up this early for work?” For some of us, the motivation is simply the desire to shut off the clock that is vibrating off the nightstand. But for others, it is truly self-motivation. It is an internal alarm clock that motivates a person to make the best of his or her day.

Certainly, everyone wants to succeed in the world. Everyone wants to have a purpose, to be at the top of the corporate ladder, or to be the best he or she can be in any given area. But why do some people succeed in doing these things, and others do not? The answer is: self-motivation.

There are several factors that contribute to self-motivation. They include:

-Self-esteem
-Desire to succeed
-Will power
-Mental stability
-Family
-Life goals
-Daily activities
-Daily pleasures

All of these factors will directly affect success in a career, in academics, in playing sports, and in marriage and parenting. Whether you desire the highest position possible at your job, or graduating with a 4.0 grade point average, you need self-motivation to do it. Self-motivation drives an athlete to score the winning soccer goal, just as it drives a parent to be a good role model for a child.

Along with the desire to succeed comes mental stability. Everyone has a bad day here and there; but what self-motivates a person to continue on with the bad day? The answer is mental stability. The mind is a great force. When you put your mind to accomplishing something, you will try your best to do it. As a result, your will power is tested. Being able to stay self-motivated and focused on what is important rather than “throwing in the towel” allows you to succeed in the end. Will power, mental stability, and the desire to succeed are all the result of self-motivation.

Another factor that drives self-motivation is the family unit. Family can self-motivate an individual to be successful. An individual – especially a working spouse – will crave the family’s pride and approval. The working spouse self-motivates himself or herself simply by worrying whether or not the family is taken care of financially. The working spouse will most likely want to earn a high paycheck, and in the end provide for the family. Children often idolize their parents and will mimic what they see their parents doing. In the end self-motivation is passed on from one generation to the next, as it is an important role in family affairs.

Lastly, self-motivation is driven by daily goals and basic daily routines such as losing weight or learning how to play a sport. The simple daily pleasure of waking up to see the sun shine, to hear the birds singing, or even listening to the rain are all pleasures which can self-motivate a person to get up in the morning.

Get Some Daily Motivation And Inspiration!

Maybe you need to find a better job, develop more confidence, or go back to school, and you need some inspiration. Perhaps you need motivation to keep visiting the gym, or to work at a sales opportunity, even your own home based business. Quotes and words of wisdom, can sometimes help you in many ways, and the more you fill your mind with these positive thoughts the better off you will be.

There are some awesome self-help authors out there, with some really fantastic books, and it is a great idea to read at least a few pages of these books, every single day. It is also great to read a daily source of inspiring words, such as a daily e-mail message, or a “thought for the day” calendar, and things of that nature.

You can do anything you want if you really put your mind to it, and don’t let anyone tell you that you cannot! Fill yourself up with positive words, and avoid the negative people that are around. Surround yourself with other positive people who are doing something with their lives. The grown men who sit home reading comic books, playing video games, and watching cartoons are going nowhere with their lives…guaranteed! Avoid these people like the plague! I was forced to write off a buddy of mine after 25 years of friendship because he became an energy vampire, practically draining people of their positive energy!

“Self-trust is the first secret of success.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

“They are able because they think they are able.” – Virgil

“If we only knew the real value of a day.” – Joseph Farrell

Life is too short to sit around broke, bored, or sad…get up and get out there and start living your life! If you need more money, then start earning more money, so that you can enjoy your life more!

My name is Father Time, and I write a daily motivational e-mail message, which can be seen by clicking here. I am willing to give YOU a free subscription, so hurry and sign up, and tell a friend, please!

You can do whatever you want with the remainder of your life…so get going!

Many Blessings!

How to be motivated to draw good back rounds ?

I love drawing things like people are animals, and I’m pretty good it, but I need to work on drawing back rounds like objects, landscapes,and buildings but I just can’t seem to find the motivation. When I try drawing a full background I get bored,tired, and give up, and work more on animals and people.But if I ever want to become a good comic book, or cartoon artist I’ll have to learn to be well rounded, so any tips ?

I know some of the basics such as drawing things further away higher on the paper,smaller, and less detailed.,and I know how to draw object such as spheres,pyramids,cubes, but I can’t seem to find motivation to draw a detailed buildings or detailed trees.

Thanks in advance.
I mean *people and animals* not “people are animals” :/

Well in a sense you have your motivation. Trust me as a comic artist your backgrounds or setting must be as interesting as your focal figures. You must stop thinking of the backgrounds as a field for the object of interest to exist in but as an extension of the emotion you as the artist are trying to convey. I think great inspiration comes from looking at great work. Look at an artist like Brian Froud to see how he makes every inch of his pieces dynamic. Or the work of Boris Vallejo! The Pre- Raphaelite movement!
To learn more techniques I would suggest going to smart flix and renting everything you can. They have hundreds of how to video’s and frankly there is always more to know. If you want to be a giant in your field you will need giant skills. Be a Bad A&&! Remember if all the worlds a stage then you want the best stage to play out your scene!
Something I know many working artists try and make time to do is Plien air painting. Are the shadows hot or cool. See the reflected light? Trust me you will never stop learning to see more. Just remember this is your craft! I hope this is a good starting place. You will love smartflix!

Simple Steps to Self Help Motivation

Have you been looking for resources for self help motivation? If you have found yourself bored with your day to day life or find that you have a lack of energy, then finding self help motivation may be the answer for you. Finding motivation in your life will help you rediscover new ways to live it; and, once you discover how to motivate yourself, you’ll realize just how creative and exciting your life will become.

A friend of mine used to sit around his house on the computer all day. He shut himself off from the outside world in many ways. The more separate he felt, the less motivated he would feel to go out into the world and find ways to stimulate his brain. Needless to say, this became a self-fulfilling cycle. In the end, he felt hopeless and powerless.

What he didn’t understand was that the more he gave into his hopeless feeling, the more he distanced himself from opportunities in the world around him. If you’ve ever felt like that, then you should know that the best thing to break this cycle is to act against your first instinct.

Because you’ve patterned yourself into a certain behavior, the best way to motivate yourself and break that behavior is to behave in new and different ways. You can start small if that makes you feel comfortable. Break up the small habits and rituals in your life.

Once you behave in different ways, you’ll start to feel different things. You’ll start to find motivation to break the same old patterns in your life. You’ll discover that inside you is a person willing to take rewarding risks. Once these risks are rewarded, even though it may take time to find the new behaviors that are most successful for you, you’ll find yourself easily falling into these successful behavioral patterns.

Find gratitude in your small successes. Find hope in the ability to change in accordance with your will and desires. Be determined in pursuing your hopes and dreams. Every journey starts with a single step, so start small and work from there. But don’t be afraid to push your comfort zone at times, because that is how we learn to grow and thrive.

My Think and Grow Rich Motivational Transformation to Success

Remember, too, that all who succeed in life get off to a bad start, and pass through many heartbreaking struggles before they “arrive.” The turning point in the lives of those who succeed usually comes at the moment of some crisis, through which they are introduced to their “other selves.”
***************************************************************************
This paragraph for Think and Grow Rich is one of a two that resignated with me my 1st time through the book when it was given to me some 27 years ago when I was 21. It was given to be by a friend, a girl that when you met her yu know that she had something going on unlike anyone else. She was always very upbeat, motivated, excited and just Fired Up^^^ all the time.

The week that I was given Think and Grow Rich I was at a “crisis point” in my life, yes at the age of 21 I was in “crisis.” I had moved to Texas from Nebraska on a whim with some friends when the meat packing plant we were all working at laid us off indefinately. The 1st year was a lot of fun although when I returned to Nebraska for Christmas only 10 short months later I was pretty beaten down by the big city and stayed home for 3 weeks almost not to return. But something inside said go give it one more year and see how it goes, so I returned.

I was working as a brick tender which if you don’t know what that is thank
your lucky stars! There had been some rainy weather so we were shut down for a couple days, when we returned to work the foreman felt the job had fallen behind and decided to pick up the pace. I was on top of a 2 story scaffle when the forklift pulled up with a load of 300 brick where normally it was only prepared for 200, when the fork lift set the brick down I stepped over to grab the brick from following the forks and as soon as I placed my weight on the wooden plank it gave way, and down to the ground me and 300 brick fell.

Now when something like that happens either you open your eyes or you don’t and I opened my eyes and the 1st thing that hit my mind was I’m never going to do this kind of work again.

So back to later that week I’m at home one night by myself busted up broke and broken ready to make the trip back when there is a knock at the door, its are female friend, I say ours because I had several roomates at the time. So we sit and talk for hours, I told her what was happening and that I was probably going to throw in the towel and head back to Nebraska. Her 1st words were and thats going to help you how? Then her next words were, wha kind of work do you think you will be able to find there? We talked some more and she said before she left don’t make any decisions or do anything I’m going to bring you something tomorrow.

The next evening she kept her word and when she walked in she handed me this book that was titled Think and Grow Rich BY Napolean Hill, she told me not to judge it just to read it. And I did, of course like everyone for the 1st time I couldn’t put it down, remember I’m just from a small town basically rural Nebraska my friends I had rarely if ever even heard of or seen a Mercedes or a Rolex watch or Designer clothes. Now I did have friends that were from wealthy families and lived at the private lake. While I lived on the south side of the tracks and my mother worked 3 to 4 jobs at a time raising three kids by herself. So to say I was not from an affluent back ground.

I’m now 48 or will be in a couple weeks and my life has not been perfect but I truly have been blessed beyond measure. I’ve continued my Personal Development Journey and even consider myself and expert on the subject.

I’ve literally read hundreds of books, listen to hundreds if not thousands of hours of audios, sat in meetings and trainings until I could’nt sit no more. And everyday the 1st thing I do after I Thank the Lord for another day, is pick up a book that I might get that one little nugget from that will make my day or help me make someone elses day which is what I enjoy to do the most!

Whatever you want to call it , Self Help, personal development the law of attraction, self realization, self motivation together it all helps anybody who who is open minded and takes acyion on the principles and techiniques. It does not create a perfect life but it can help anyone have a better life than they would have with out it. Jim Rohn, infamous motivational speaker, trainer world renowed business philosopher said it best. ” A formal education will get you a job, a self education will get you a fortune.”

And to think it all started 27 years ago when someone thought enough of me to give me that 1st book Think and Grow Rich, I’ve given hundreds of books and programs away since that day and I spoke to thousands of people, the entire time just hoping I would touch that one person who needed to hear that one nugget that would turn their day or even their life around. Jim Rohn also said,”when the student is ready thye teacher will appear.” I’m glad I was ready when I was given that 1st book.

Shortly after reading Think and Grow Rich, by taking that verse I stated above about a persons life turning around at a point of crisis, the second thing that I found and put to use was being persistent. To get that story you will have to read the next article!

I hope you enjoyed my quick little story here, its definately the short version, those who know me well have heard more than they probably care to say!

If you have not yet, I dont care if you’re eight or eighty read the book Think and Grow Rich, By Napolean Hill, you can get one now on Amazon I think for less than $10. Read it again and again, and read other books like it.

And I know you will Think and Grow Rich!

Thanks for Your Time!

When you get a second stop by the blog and let me know how you liked the book or other books!

what would suggest to improve high school drop out rates?

If you were infront of the board of education for your state, what would suggest to improve high school drop out rates?
I’ve already thought of improving kids’ self motivation and parent involvment. What else? This is a report by the way, I’m not actually going to the BoE

If you are in High School, think about the kids that you knew that dropped out, what did they have in common? I do teach GED and have heard probably one hundred different reasons for leaving school. Poor family life, low expectations from their environment, drugs, alcohol etc. It is difficult to break this circle of failure and not everyone will be saved. Many school systems have tried alternative High Schools with some success. Believe it or not, more structure in the school and not less, works well.

Customer Service and Today’s Economy

Tom Peters is mostly associated with managing during bad economic times. On his site (TomPeters.com) he recently wrote:

“Instant, mindless cutting of R&D or training or salesforce travel in the face of a downturn is often counterproductive–or, rather, downright stupid. Tough times are in fact golden opportunities to get the drop, and the long term drop at that, on those who respond to bad news by panicky across-the-board slash and burn tactics and moves that de-motivate and alienate the workforce at exactly the wrong moment.”

What stands out to me are: “…mindless cutting of training, etc.” and these times are ‘golden opportunities.”

Interesting fact: The Chinese symbol for crisis and opportunity are identical.

According to a recent survey recently conducted by Tealeaf, a leading customer experience management company, one key element to surviving an economic downturn is excellent customer service. This is a huge opportunity for companies willing to significantly improve their customer service, as this enables you to stand out among your competition.

By providing world class customer service, and listening to what the customer needs and wants, you are more able to satisfy your customer’s needs. This allows you to not only retain the loyalty of existing customers, but through positive word-of-mouth, procure new ones without massive spending on marketing and advertising.

This is vital since these same survey results showed that in the online market in particular, 4 out of 10 people halted all business with a company after just one instance of poor customer service. A favorite [removed]don’t know who said it) you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression!

Back to listening for a minute, which is a major component in communication…I just finished reading A Whole New Mind by Daniel H. Pink. He reports research from twenty years ago when doctor-patient encounters were videotaped. They found that the doctors interrupted their patients after an average of 21 seconds. A more recent study shows that doctors have improved. It’s not 23 seconds before they interrupt (p. 110). While we can all probably relate and even chuckle, if we move this to the customer service arena, what happens? Customers don’t get listened to. And what do customers want? What do we all want? To be treated with dignity and respect, and to be heard!

In today’s world repetitive, routine, ‘just the facts, mam’ issues can be handled through self service usually efficiently and effectively. Therefore, the more complex, complicated, and excelerated calls are necessitating human contact. Tools, techniques, common phraseology, and language are just a few requirements for world class customer service.

Are these taught in school? No. These are introduced in customized, live, interactive training sessions delivered in real time. Is this a cost to bear? No. This is about investing in your people. Usually the lowest paid person has the highest responsibility of contact with the current and potential customers. There are KPI (Key Performance Indicators) that can be directly positively impacted by customer service skills training.

After all, as I’ve said many times, we, the people, are who make the difference.

Does Meditation Help To Get Motivated?

Does Meditation Help To Get Motivated?
Meditation has become a very general term for some people. It could simply mean somebody wants to be alone, or sit quietly, suppose regarding something, or simply relax. Professional meditators have fixed rules and routines regarding their specific kind of meditation. The one common element with them is that the length of time it takes to be told the way to meditate correctly, sometimes several years. If you know exactly how to use a type of meditation for motivation, then that’s great, and don’t want any guidance. For the rest people, we have a tendency to could use the term loosely, and say we are going to meditate, as long as we have a tendency to embrace deep relaxation and visualisation within the criteria.
These are the 2 essential factors for obtaining motivated, and even more so, for staying motivated. Being relaxed means that deeply, not simply sitting down listening to favorite music or t.v. shows. This will solely get you down to Alpha level relaxation, which isn’t effective for self programming kind visualisation. You need to urge into a minimum of Theta, and even better, Delta. Both are very deep relaxation states, and necessary to activate deep memory processing, firstly Theta, and then into Delta.
A sensible example is once I heard a soccer player being interviewed on camera throughout half time. He said he was disoriented and played badly as a result of he could not bear in mind a issue the coach told him before the match. All the directions he was given most likely did not go below his Beta level, which is that the acutely aware, superficial level. Being highly stressed and tense, he simply might not get the coach’s information into his deep memory, thus he forgot it when he walked out the door. This is often largely the coaching fault for not conveying the instructions when all players are relaxed. This should have been done a lot of earlier, and then all the coach needed to do just before the match, was to try and do a brief recall briefing. The players ought to have remembered it simply, because they already had it stored in their deep memory. The same for once they are on the sector during the game, all the ways should come naturally, without any effort or stress.
One knowledgeable in this sports memory training is Dr Ashley Craig, professor of Neuropsychology. He described his visualisation/memory strategy to me, and it was precisely as I would have done it. Dr Craig was fortunate to be given a Government grant of $40k on one occasion, to research this space of soccer mental memory. He based mostly himself at the Panthers clubhouse for this exercise. He worked closely with the players and their coach, and trained them how to visualise the desired game skills and techniques, after they were relaxed – to programme it into their deep memory. After only some weeks the team went from bottom of the competition ladder, to second prime!
Another example he gave me was how Roger Federer visualised himself hitting aces, for an entire hour before a tennis match. One hour is manner too long, because you can still do it effectively, in simply a couple of minutes, but anyway it works for him.
Effective visualisation is the key for motivation, therefore we tend to won’t use the term meditation, in case of confusion.

Why do some non-Buddhists practice Zen meditation?

I’m not putting down non-Buddhists who practice Zen Buddhist meditation; I think it’s great that they can still receive benefit from Buddha’s teachings. Is the motivation for them simply to relax and calm their mind?

The word “Zen” actually means “meditation.” There is of course a centuries-long cultural tradition connected with Zen practice, but it is first and always a PRACTICE. The focus is not, in other words, on beliefs and concepts.

(Actually the focus on beliefs and concepts is, speaking in general terms, more a Western religious approach.)

One can believe and think what one wishes and still benefit from the sort of honest intimacy with life that is the healthy heart and foundation of Zen.
~~~~
EDIT: After offering the above I received the following from OP Jack:
“Buddhism as a whole is a religion with doctrines, beliefs, and philosophies, and I wouldn’t say that it’s a Western religious approach; all religions have beliefs and concepts, including all Eastern Religions, including Buddhism. Don’t try to turn Buddhism into something it’s not.”
I’m a Buddhist minister, with graduate degrees in both Western Theology and Buddhist studies. It’s a somewhat subtle but important point: there are LOTS of ways human beings are “religious.” The key to my mind is to look at the practical experiences underlying and giving rise to beliefs and rituals and the like. Some Buddhists are heavy into “faith” (namely, the Pure Land sect), but speaking broadly, “belief” is more emphasized by Western theistic currents (giving rise to “creeds”). Many Hindus, Taoists, Confucians, and, especially, Buddhists — although they might embrace “trust” in their teachers and in the tradition of teachings — the emphasis tends more to be on what you do and what you experience, rather than what you profess to believe.
A good example is the Kalama Sutra in Buddhism, where the Buddha calls on his listeners not to believe him, or anything simply because it’s been said many times, but to accept instead only what they have found in their own experience to be healthy and wholesome and true. And Zen Buddhist takes that to a practical limit — inviting its practitioners effectively to question everything they can conceptualize, to let go of concepts altogether, and connect with something much more original and simple and fundamental than any mere idea.
Herzberg Motivation Theory – How Hygienic Is Your Change Management Initiative?
Frederick Herzberg’s Hygiene Theory [also known as Two Factor Theory] concludes that certain factors – “motivators” – in the workplace result in job satisfaction; factors such as challenging work, recognition, and responsibility. However there are other factors that if absent, lead to dissatisfaction and de-motivation; factors such as status, work environment, location, job security, salary and benefits. These things do not motivate and are called “Hygiene” factors because, like hygiene, their presence will not make you healthier, but absence can cause health deterioration.
Practical application of Herzberg Motivation Theory to change management
(1) The planning of a change initiative
At the planning stage of a change initiative, Hygiene theory will influence the stakeholder mapping and analysis process and it will help to shape the the communication strategy. It focuses change leaders on the impacts of these 2 dimensions of human needs – motivators and dissatisfiers.
(2) The communication skills of leadership
There will be difficult business circumstances and especially where job losses are involved and where significant change to business practises are involved – that neither sets of needs are going to met particularly well, or even at all.
People are flexible and will adjust and accept this – at least for a while – is if it is communicated honestly and accurately.
It is my view that the framing or positioning of a situation by the change leader is extremely important – especially in knowing how to focus and present a communication about a difficult situation with lots of dissatisfiers in such a way that it does address motivation factors needs at the earliest opportunity.
I say this because in my view, people will be more likely to tolerate difficult circumstances if they are led well and in such a way that their aspirational and higher motivational needs are addressed.
(3) Judgement call and reframing
In my view, a key change leadership skill is knowing how to make the “judgement call” on how and when to communicate to people news that in terms of Herzburg motivation theory is going to dissatisfy them and demotivate them.
And – here’s the key to this I feel – having the capacity to “reframe” the situation fairly quickly in such a way that people’s motivation needs [or at least some of them] are addressed.
See here for the full change management implications of the: ” Herzberg Hygiene Theory “
how to Compare and contrast the drive theory and the incentive theory of motivation.?
this is according to psychology
Well “like” attributes of both theories is that either one is the source reason that puts us into action- of doing something. (They both motivate us, thus the “theories of motivation.”) The rewards differ though. For drive, the reward would be intrinic. Which means they it is internal. You are driven to do something because of the satisfaction or the feeling you get from the accomplishment. Incentive based motivation implies that there is an external reward like money or praise. So for example. Take two people both with good grades. One might have straight A’s because she likes being the best. That’s internal the motivation would be drive. Another person might get straight A’s because they get $50.00 for every A on their report card. That would be incentive motivation. Both are motivated to achieve the same goal, but simply for different reasons or “motives” behind why they do what they do.
* LifePath Complaints *Can U Make Money With LifePath Unlimited?
If you’re looking for a legitimate way to make money online and investigating Life Path Unlimited this is a no-nonsense look at Life Path Unlimited. If you’ve been doing your research you already know there’s a lot of noise online, a lot of hype and misinformation going both ways. Half the reviews you read are screaming “LifePath Scam!”, while the other half make it sound like God’s gift to humanity My goal is to cut through all that nonsense and just give you the straight facts about LifePath Unlimited, so that you can make an educated business decision for yourself. So what I’m going to do for you now is simply give you a breakdown of exactly what you can expect with LifePath, and let you make up your own mind. The first thing you need to understand is that before you can earn commissions from selling LifePath, you first have to buy the products yourself, and there’s 3 products: Discovery, Breakthrough, and Destiny. Discovery is a home study course they ship to your house. It comes with audio CDs, a journal and a workbook. And there’s also a 45 minute DVD which is like an introductory promotional movie. The price tag on that is $1,695. Breakthrough is a 3 day conference that will cost you $8,995. For that you get to attend seminars, listen to motivational speakers, and take part in various mind/body exercises leading up to the main event, which is a fire-walk. Destiny is a 5 day conference with live events and self development training, and it ends in a big costume party. For all that, they want you to pay $14,995. Now, you’re not required to buy all 3 products up-front but if you want to earn the commission you have to spend the money. So, realistically speaking, you’re looking at an initial investment of $26,000 to get started with LifePath Unlimited as a home based business. And that’s not including a marketing budget or training platform. $26,000 is a pretty big chunk of change, and my question for LifePath is what do you actually get for spending all that money? Their basic pitch is that by joining the program, you’re getting access to great Personal Development strategies and teachers that will help you achieve a real breakthrough in your life. I’m all for personal development and community-building amongst like-minded people. And many of the speakers involved in the LifePath Conferences seem very energetic and fun to be around, but I couldn’t help but notice that none of the big names in personal development are involved, not the ones that major Fortune 100 companies trust, like Jack Canfield or Marc Victor Hanson. And here’s the thing. I can go to a LIVE 4-Day Tony Robbins event (including coursework, CDs, and the whole fire-walk experience) for only $600. I mean, compare 4 days LIVE with the number one reigning personal development guru, Tony Robbins, for $600, versus a 5 day conference with lesser-known speakers for $15,000. The bottom line here is that if you’re looking for elite personal development, you can get far superior training, products and services, for a lot less money. So when it comes to LifePath at $26K – you have to ask: why the big mark-up? And the answer is simple. That’s how LifePath pays out their commissions. If you were to pay $26K to buy all three products, 60% of your money would go directly to your sponsor in the form of commissions. So let’s be honest here. LifePath is essentially a business opportunity to sell a business opportunity. And I’m not saying that’s wrong. Certainly some people do okay in that business model. For me personally, it’s important to believe in my product 100%. It makes me a better salesperson, and I make more money because of it. And when my 5 year old son looks me in the eye and asks me what I do for a living, I feel good about representing a company and a product that provides real value to my customers and a very lucrative money making opportunity for me and my team. At first glance, everything about the LifePath Unlimited business seemed to be a good fit. But after I dug a little deeper, I uncovered two glaring flaws: Number One: The Company doesn’t have a strong online presence. They’re not familiar with advanced marketing techniques, and they don’t have comprehensive training for new team members to learn how to become successful marketers. Number Two: The product is very expensive, and artificially expensive. Which means there’s no real stand-alone value, and you’re dealing with a very small potential customer base because there’s just not that many people out there who are willing to spend that kind of money, especially in this economy. So is LifePath Unlimited a Scam? Absolutely not. It’s a legitimate business where some people make money. But there are sleeker more lucrative opportunities available where you can promote a product with more real value and not have to spend a small fortune just to get started.
