<p>Remember, too, that all who succeed in life get off to a bad start, and pass through many heartbreaking struggles before they &#8220;arrive.&#8221; The turning point in the lives of those who succeed usually comes at the moment of some crisis, through which they are introduced to their &#8220;other selves.&#8221;<br />***************************************************************************<br />This paragraph for Think and Grow Rich is one of a two that resignated with me my 1st time through the book when it was given to me some 27 years ago when I was 21. It was given to be by a friend, a girl that when you met her yu know that she had something going on unlike anyone else. She was always very upbeat, motivated, excited and just Fired Up^^^ all the time.</p>

But something inside said go give it one more year and see how it goes, so I returned.</p>
<p>I was working as a brick tender which if you don&#8217;t know what that is thank <br />your lucky stars! There had been some rainy weather so we were shut down for a couple days, when we returned to work the foreman felt the job had fallen behind and decided to pick up the pace. I was on top of a 2 story scaffle when the forklift pulled up with a load of 300 brick where normally it was only prepared for 200, when the fork lift set the brick down I stepped over to grab the brick from following the forks and as soon as I placed my weight on the wooden plank it gave way, and down to the ground me and 300 brick fell.</p>
<p>Now when something like that happens either you open your eyes or you don&#8217;t and I opened my eyes and the 1st thing that hit my mind was I&#8217;m never going to do this kind of work again.</p>
<p>So back to later that week I&#8217;m at home one night by myself busted up broke and broken ready to make the trip back when there is a knock at the door, its are female friend, I say ours because I had several roomates at the time. So we sit and talk for hours, I told her what was happening and that I was probably going to throw in the towel and head back to Nebraska. Her 1st words were and thats going to help you how? Then her next words were, wha kind of work do you think you will be able to find there? We talked some more and she said before she left don&#8217;t make any decisions or do anything I&#8217;m going to bring you something tomorrow.</p>
<p>The next evening she kept her word and when she walked in she handed me this book that was titled Think and Grow Rich BY Napolean Hill, she told me not to judge it just to read it. And I did, of course like everyone for the 1st time I couldn&#8217;t put it down, remember I&#8217;m just from a small town basically rural Nebraska my friends I had rarely if ever even heard of or seen a Mercedes or a Rolex watch or Designer clothes. Now I did have friends that were from wealthy families and lived at the private lake. While I lived on the south side of the tracks and my mother worked 3 to 4 jobs at a time raising three kids by herself. So to say I was not from an affluent back ground.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m now 48 or will be in a couple weeks and my life has not been perfect but I truly have been blessed beyond measure. I&#8217;ve continued my <a href="http://www.kennynieves.com/personal-development">Personal Development</a> Journey and even consider myself and expert on the subject.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve literally read hundreds of books, listen to hundreds if not thousands of hours of audios, sat in meetings and trainings until I could&#8217;nt sit no more. And everyday the 1st thing I do after I Thank the Lord for another day, is pick up a book that I might get that one little nugget from that will make my day or help me make someone elses day which is what I enjoy to do the most!</p>
<p>Whatever you want to call it , <a href="http://www.kennynieves.com/self-help">Self Help</a>, personal development the law of attraction, self realization, self motivation together it all helps anybody who who is open minded and takes acyion on the principles and techiniques.&nbsp; It does not create a perfect life but it can help anyone have a better life than they would have with out it. Jim Rohn, infamous motivational speaker, trainer world renowed business philosopher said it best. &#8221; A formal education will get you a job, a self education will get you a fortune.&#8221;</p>
<p>And to think it all started 27 years ago when someone thought enough of me to give me that 1st book Think and Grow Rich, I&#8217;ve given hundreds of books and programs away since that day and I spoke to thousands of people, the entire time just hoping I would touch that one person who needed to hear that one nugget that would turn their day or even their life around.&nbsp; Jim Rohn also said,&#8221;when the student is ready thye teacher will appear.&#8221;&nbsp; I&#8217;m glad I was ready when I was given that 1st book.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Shortly after reading Think and Grow Rich, by taking that verse I stated above about a persons life turning around at a point of crisis, the second thing that I found and put to use was being persistent.&nbsp; To get that story you will have to read the next article!</p>
<p>I hope you enjoyed my quick little story here, its definately the short version, those who know me well have heard more than they probably care to say!</p>

<p>If you are in High School, think about the kids that you knew that dropped out, what did they have in common? I do teach GED and have heard probably one hundred different reasons for leaving school. Poor family life, low expectations from their environment, drugs, alcohol etc. It is difficult to break this circle of failure and not everyone will be saved. Many school systems have tried alternative High Schools with some success. Believe it or not, more structure in the school and not less, works well.</p>

<p>I&#8217;m glad you are deciding early on to seek improvement. This shows great maturity for your age, and I hope you give yourself credit for taking responsibility. Good for you!</p>
<p>1. If you or your family has a history of anxiety, it can be diet related. I know someone whose anxiety condition was caused by abnormal blood sugar levels, and got medical help to fix the imbalance. Her uncle had diabetes, and another relative had anxiety, and it turns out this ran in the family. So she got help in advance, to prevent from getting the same problems they did.</p>
<p>2. If it is spiritual, in your thoughts or emotions, can you look into the patterns of your relationship with your father or family? It is common for issues of &#8220;control&#8221; or &#8220;desire for approval&#8221; to be linked to fears or conflicts passed down from parents as authority-figures. So if you communicate, confront any fears, and reach an understanding, you can overcome any past patterns that may cause repeat insecurity, fear or stress. You will feel empowered by taking steps yourself. (If there were any past issues that made you feel weaker or inferior, if you can &#8220;forgive&#8221; these causes, and agree in the future not to let this affect you as much, and remember you are a &#8220;hero&#8221; and not a victim of the past, this method helps many people to move forward with courage and confidence.) </p>
<p>3. Please note that if you feel this is affecting your relationship, your partner may ALSO have patterns with a parent that is repeating like &#8220;role-playing.&#8221; How you see your parents&#8217; relationships can affect how you treat each other, whether there is an imbalance of control or stress, or you have equal respect and harmony. So this is a good opportunity to study and learn to develop your best strengths, and resolve any weaknesses or conflicts early on, so you can enjoy life and relationships more fully.</p>

<p>P.S. Since you seem so advanced for your age, may I recommend a book that is normally given to high school graduates. &#8220;What Color is your Parachute&#8221; by Dr. Richard Bolles. The manual is FILLED with fun exercises and charts to evaluate your best interests, skills and talents, and show what jobs use them. So you can start thinking ahead what kind of work or career you would most like to look into. Some kids start a business while they are still in high school. If you can direct your energy and focus on something you enjoy doing well with your natural talents, that may help your esteem at the same time. There is also a manual &#8220;You Can Do It&#8221; by Lauren Catuzzi Grandcolas full of project and career ideas for young women, step by step. Again, another great resource for researching and visualizing different skills or goals you might like to try out! Go for it!</p>

Some Buddhists are heavy into &#8220;faith&#8221; (namely, the Pure Land sect), but speaking broadly, &#8220;belief&#8221; is more emphasized by Western theistic currents (giving rise to &#8220;creeds&#8221;). Many Hindus, Taoists, Confucians, and, especially, Buddhists &#8212; although they might embrace &#8220;trust&#8221; in their teachers and in the tradition of teachings &#8212; the emphasis tends more to be on what you do and what you experience, rather than what you profess to believe. </p>
<p>A good example is the Kalama Sutra in Buddhism, where the Buddha calls on his listeners not to believe him, or anything simply because it&#8217;s been said many times, but to accept instead only what they have found in their own experience to be healthy and wholesome and true. <h2>Linking Career Advancement to Job Performance – a Performance Improvement Strategy</h2>
<p>While all your employees may not crave a promotion, some will. &nbsp;For those employees, upward mobility is the key motivator. &nbsp;They are willing to cooperate and contribute, but they want to advance in their careers. Unfortunately, promotions do not always happen fast enough for some employees.</p>
<p>There are two &#8220;good news&#8221; points to this situation. &nbsp;First, career advancement does not have to be <strong>only</strong> about getting promoted. &nbsp;Rather, it can be about activities, projects, or assignments that contribute to opportunities for promotion. &nbsp;Second, employees know that promotions are not always possible. &nbsp;So they are willing to consider opportunities that contribute to advancement. &nbsp;Employees want to feel that they are <em>working on</em> their careers, even if they are not receiving a promotion.</p>
<p>To make the link between career advancement and job performance, do two things. &nbsp;One, look for career related opportunities in every assignment. &nbsp;Two, explain &#8220;how&#8221; every assignment offers a career related opportunity and a chance for employees to <em>work on</em> their careers. &nbsp;Consider theses examples:</p>
<p>1.&nbsp;You want your employee to participate in a task force. This task force will be led by an influential department manager (career related opportunity).</p>
<p>2.&nbsp;You want your employee to make a presentation at a conference. &nbsp;There will be several high profile managers at this conference (career related opportunity).</p>
<p>3.&nbsp;You want your employee to take a class on Effective Presentations. &nbsp;This class will help the employee enhance skills that will be useful during job interviews (career related opportunity).</p>
<p>4.&nbsp;You want your employee to train other employees. &nbsp;This assignment will enhance her or his credibility as a Subject Matter Expert (career related opportunity).</p>
<p>5.&nbsp;You want your employee to participate in a charity event for the organization. &nbsp;One of the major event activities will involve interviewing key leaders in the organization (career related opportunity).</p>
<p>This approach is about explaining to employees how their performance or participation can lead to greater visibility, more recognition, or additional career related skills. &nbsp;And while you are not saying to the employee, <em>&#8220;This assignment or activity will lead to a promotion.&#8221;</em> You are saying, <em>&#8220;This assignment or activity will offer you a valuable career related experience.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>Believe it or not, employees will appreciate the fact that you are focusing on their career interests. &nbsp;Too many times managers remain silent when promotions are not possible. &nbsp;In those instances, employees become frustrated and stop doing their best work. &nbsp;The most talented employees leave for greener pastures.&nbsp;</p>
<p>By using this approach, you at least let employees know that you care about their careers. &nbsp;You also move the focus away from &#8220;getting a promotion&#8221; as the only solution to career advancement. &nbsp;Instead, you help employees see that they can still have some valuable career related experiences. &nbsp;This way, they are working on their careers and working toward a promotion. &nbsp;Try it and see what happens.</p>

<p><b>no motivation or passion in my job&#8230;how can i improve the situation?</b><br />

<p>i&#8217;ve been working only 8 months and it&#8217;s just so hard to be motivated or passionate about my job. i&#8217;m a financial anlyst reporting business performance and stuff..but i just don&#8217;t feel that im doing anything useful or that makes a difference in real life but all i do is number crunching and power point etc.. i just feel that im only using 10% of my ability.. the rest of ability is spent on my personal life such as traveling and networking with people. it&#8217;s not too bad but i believe that i can be really successful if i do something i love .. or at least something that gives me clear motivation.. like money. what should i do???<br />
but thing is i don&#8217;t know what i really wanna do for my career.. i try to do as many things as possible and studied business but it still doesn&#8217;t show me any sign yet.

<p>suffering from depression is an everyday balttle compiled with pms it is 10 times worse.  I have tried many perscription drugs but they do not seem to work.  I have been told exercise is good but do not seem to have any energy or self motivation.  Life is getting harder to live.  The only peace that I have seems to be when I am sleeping.  People who do not suffer from this do not understand, they say smile or do something you like.  They do not understand.  I am 50 and believe I am going through the change.  My Dr. has just retired  (he was my Dr. for 40 years).  I have a new Dr. and even though my old Dr. said I was not going through the change my new Dr. thinks I am. I am confused and tired.  I do not have medical insurance and have not worked for four years. (I was a autimobile assembler).  I live in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada is there a free group or something that could help me.  I am my wits end.  My heart goes out to anyone with these problems.  They make life very difficult.

<p>It&#8217;s most direct cause is the &#8216;chemical imbalance&#8217; that people talk about, but that can be caused or exacerbated by traumatic experiences or other external stimuli.  The balance of neurotransmitters in the brain isn&#8217;t fixed.  It&#8217;s constantly changing in reponse to both internal and external stimuli.  For example, studies have shown that PTSD is associated with shrinkage of a certain region of the brain, and that under extreme stress, certain structures associated with memory undergo temprorary changes that account for the often fragmented but vivid memories of traumatic events, or the inability to remember them at all.</p>
<p>The neurological mechanisms of depression are not fully understood, and I&#8217;m not familiar with a lot of what is out there about it, but the general idea is that certain neurotransmitters are present in higher or lower than normal levels in certain regions of the brain.  These neurotransmitters include serotonin, dopamine, and possibly norephinephrine.  The &#8216;chemical imbalance&#8217; isn&#8217;t the same for everyone.  Different people respond differently to different classes of antidepressants.  For some people, selective norephinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) are effective against depression, suggesting that for some, a deficiencey of norephinephrine in certain regions may be at least partial responsible for depression.  Others don&#8217;t respond to SNRIs, but respond to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), which increase levels of serotonin, or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO inhibitors), which inhibit the breakdown of several neurotransmitters, including both serotonin and norephinephrine as well as several others.  If the biochemical mechanisms of depression were universal, everyone would respond to the same treatments, effecting the same neurontransmitters.</p>
<p>Since the physiology of the brain is highly plastic, and is constantly changing in response to all kinds of stimuli, there are various ways that the &#8216;chemical imbalance&#8217; described about could arise.  In some cases, it could even be purely genetic.  The body simply doesn&#8217;t produce enough serotonin, norephinephrine, dopamine, or whatever, or doesn&#8217;t transport enough of it to whatever region of the brain it needs to be in.  There&#8217;s considerable evidence that a predisposition to depression can be inhereted.  That doesn&#8217;t necessarily mean that people who get some &#8216;depression gene&#8217; are automatically going to be depressed; it may mean that they&#8217;re more likely to develop depression under the same circumstances that may not result in depression in other people.  On the other hand, some people are depressed even from early childhood with no apparent external cause.  In those cases, it&#8217;s quite possibly the result of some genetic or developmental abnormality that causes some &#8216;chemical imbalance&#8217; that manifests itself as depression.</p>
<p>But as I said, environmental factors can cause physiological changes in the brain, that could result in depression.  The &#8216;chemical imbalances&#8217; of depression could be caused by traumatic experiences, unfulfilled ambition, disatisfaction with your job, and so on.  Anything that you would think could cause depression probably can.  But it&#8217;s still a &#8216;chemical imbalance&#8217; in that what it actually causes are physiological changes that cause the emotional and behavioral symptoms we consider to be depression.</p>
<p>I also mentioned internal stimuli somewhere up there.  The stimuli that causes the &#8216;chemical imbalance&#8217; doesn&#8217;t have to be external or genetic.  There are all kinds of hormones and internal feedback that can cause physiological responses in the brain.  Different hormone levels can cause depression.  The most common association would be teenagers being depressed while their sex hormones are fluctuating, and that could also be extended to menopausal women, but it&#8217;s not limited to hormones associated with sexual reproduction.  There are various glands in your body that produce hormones involved in regulating all kinds of processes, and something going wrong with one of those could potentially produce a neurological response.</p>
<p>I could go on and on speculating about more potential causes of a &#8216;chemical imbalance&#8217; in the brain, but I&#8217;m running out of time and credibility, so I&#8217;ll stop there.  The point is that yes, it is caused by a chemical imbalance, but that chemical imbalance has to be caused by something too.</p>
