Is The “Sports BettingChamp” System A Scam?

Are all sports betting systems a scam generally? There are people that suppose all of them are for numerous causes, but these reasons could be defined using some logic and understanding of sports activities betting. One of the latest systems to draw the skeptics is The SportsBettingChamp System. It’s a statistical sports betting system develop by John Morrison, a Cornell graduate with a PhD in Statistics. He has put years into creating and perfecting his system. The betting system he developed analyzes NBA and MLB games and claims a ninety seven% win rate. It is this declare, together with 3 other main points that cause some people to turn out to be skeptics of this system and most others.
The principle reasons to doubt the system that I’ve heard people speak about and have seen in numerous sports discussion board discussions are these:

1. How can a system win 97% of video games, that is impossible?

2. Why would someone share a betting system?

3. If it was nearly as good as it claims Vegas would alter their lines.

4. If it really works, why is there a a refund guarantee?

The primary cause may be defined by looking on the number of games that The SportsBettingChamp System really bets in a given sports season versus the number of video games played. I will use the 2006-07 NBA season as an example. Throughout the 2006-07 NBA season the system had a report of sixty six wins and a couple of losses. That signifies that it guess on a complete of sixty eight video games for your entire 2006-07 season. That is a small amount of games when in comparison with what number of are performed in a season. There are 30 groups in the league and every of them performed eighty two games. That’s over 2400 video games!

As you presumably can see, the 68 video games that have been picked by the betting system is a really small quantity when in comparability with that number. The fact is, it is much less then three% of the overall games played. The betting system does not make picks each night time, or provide you with a particular amounts every day. As an alternative, it analyzes the entire games intimately after which makes probably the most statistically accurate, low risk picks possible. There will probably be durations where bets aren’t positioned as a outcome of the games don’t meet the low risk betting technique that the system uses. And that is why attaining a ninety seven% winning percentage is possible. Most sports activities bettors play video games every night. They place bets that have so much increased risk then bets that this betting system would choose and subsequently they lose regularly.

The second cause relates extra to the psychology of people and what motivates them. Why do the wealthy nonetheless work when they could possibly be off on a sunny seashore, retired and enjoying their cash? Instead they’re within the workplace or on the phone trying to make much more money. The same applies to sports activities bettors, as the successful ones are the wealthy ones and so they too need more money. So, you most likely have developed a great sports betting system and you’ll bundle and sell it, then why not? You’ll make much more money just from selling the system and nonetheless benefit from the money from the profitable picks. That is what John Morrison has accomplished with The SportsBettingChamp System. He has decided to share it with most people, however for a price. This is not going to affect his winnings from the picks made by the system, they’ll still be performed and can nonetheless win. Other people that have purchased the system will most likely be playing them and successful as properly, but that will not have an impact on his winnings.

The skeptics all the time suppose that anybody that has a winning system would maintain it to themselves so they’re the one winners and the only ones making money. Looking at other areas of cash making will also present this cause to be untrue. There are quite a few examples of systems and courses supplied in many areas from actual estate to investing that teach people how one can make money. The people that made cash this manner did not preserve their systems to themselves. They’re now promoting courses, books, etc., just as John Morrison is promoting his NBA & MLB betting system. So, it isn’t odd for people to share their cash making ways in areas the place they’re successful.

I all the time like quantity three as a reason that someone wouldn’t publish their sports betting system. I feel that this opinion gives the impression that the Las Vegas odds line makers don’t have anything to do but look for sports activities betting systems and alter their line. There are lots of of 1000’s of bets placed on numerous sports games all over the world everyday. The majority of these bets are placed by the casual sports bettor. This is the individual who looks at 2 or 3 statistics within the paper, perhaps a sports activities column that has a pick or two and then locations his bet. This type of bettor loses nearly all of time and is who the sports activities books make their money off of. How many of the whole amount of every day bettors are utilizing a sports betting system? It’s a small percentage, probably under 10% and would be quite exhausting to determine who’s utilizing one and then to resolve which system they’re using.

The advanced bettor makes use of betting systems, like The SportsBettingChamp, and the entire statistics they’ll get or have time to get and makes educated bets that win extra often then they lose. Most use more then one system to compare statistics and outcomes and make their betting picks. That’s what I do and I win extra then I lose, nevertheless it takes lots of time. This type of bettor does cost the sports books some cash, but not practically as a lot as is taken in from the casual bettor. Additionally, it could be a big endeavor for a sports ebook to look at every system, analyze them to see in the occasion that they work as claimed and then decide the way to alter the line to make the system not work. Consider the data that would have to be collected. And then for those who change one thing because of one system, will it have an impact on another system and make it win extra? It’s too much of an endeavor and another reason why this system and others can be released without concern of the strains being changed to cease the wins.

The last reason that the skeptics bring up and I one I typically read in boards is the one concerning the money back guarantee. Additionally it is the simplest to explain. The reason it is supplied on this betting system almost all objects that you just see on the market anyplace, is to instill confidence within the purchaser of the product. It does not imply that the product would not work. You see guarantees or warranties on all kinds of merchandise, whether it is something you are buying on the Web or in a purchasing mall. They are offered to reassure people, principally people which can be only a bit skeptical, that in the event that they purchase something and will not be proud of it then they can get their cash back. It is insurance towards a scam, the identical type of scam the skeptics say John Morrison’s system is.

In case you look at forums, as I do often, the declare about the assure is all the time introduced up by people who’ve never bought The SportsBettingChamp System. If the system was a rip-off, the boards would be full of people saying that they bought the system and then had to return it because it did not work. That is not the case. I have yet to see a put up from somebody who has had to return the betting system for any reason. That’s as a result of they are utilizing it and successful and have nothing to complain.

So, do not let the skeptics maintain you back from using this system or some other sort of sports betting system. If you discover one that wins consistently, it’s essential make it part of your total betting strategy. I use a low risk sports betting technique and the picks made by this system are low danger picks.

About the Author

Azumanga Daioh manga?

I think in the 2nd or 3rd book, during the sport fest, the gang is wearing paper headbands that say “Red Racoon Dog” What is up with that? I know it’s a motivational thing but, why does it say “Red Racoon Dog”?

Raccoon Dog could refer to the Japaneses word “tanuki” a really popular cute animal, or it could refer to a type of cupped noodles.. why red I have no clue. It might just be the name of the “boy punk gang” they were dressing up as and nothing more.

I wish I could be more help!

Research Studies Prove That Video Games Do Have An Influence On Gamers

There have been several research studies done in the past to determine if video games are affecting the children that are playing them, but none of these studies have been proven what they initially set out to prove until now.

For the past nine years the National Institute of Media and Family have been conducting research studies to find out how video games are influencing the children that are playing them. The results of these research studies have been extremely shocking, but it these results have been well documented as well. Parents and adults alike need to be well aware of the results of these research findings so that they can make their very own conclusion.

Through all the research studies that have been completed it is no wonder that parents are getting mixed feelings about how video games are affecting their children. These video games have an industry rating that are suppose to warn parents about the content included within them, but do these ratings tell parents everything that they really need to know about these video games. All the video game industry is telling parents is to pay close attention to the ratings, but they deny any type of harmful effects the video games themselves may have on children.

Brain research studies have shown that violent video games can actually activate the anger center within a child’s brain, which can affect the behavior of the child. These research studies have even shown that while the child is playing video games their brain can grow in spurts that will actually affect the impact of wiring of the child’s brain. This wiring affects the child’s self-control, relationships, and responsibilities that may affect them way up into their adulthood.

This does not mean that every single child that plays a violent video game will have aggressive behavior, but it does mean that these games can affect their behavior. The results of these research studies show that video games can teach children skills, but they also show that these video games will affect the behavior as well. It can be said that video games are simply natural teachers simply because they are so powerful due to the fact that children are finding them stimulating and motivating. Video games offer children the repeated practice at necessary problem solving skills and they provide the children with rewards for the achievement in these successful skills.

Violence in video games is considered to be when the characters within the video game are intentionally harm other characters. The results of these research studies have shown that playing violent video games can lead to increased physiological arousal, increased aggressive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and a decrease in social helping behaviors. These research studies also proved that there was a direct relationship between long-term game play and aggressive behavior toward the real world, and that these aggressive behaviors are being demonstrated by children subtly.

Parents have an even more important role to play with their children that are playing these violent video games by limited the amount of time their children are allowed to play. Parents also need to pay closer attention to the industry ratings that are given on video games so ensure they understand the content within these video games. Parents need to realize that when children play violent video games for hours every day, then their child pay start showing a decrease in school performance as well as the feared increase in aggressive behavior.

What are some good career paths for someone good at computers and art?

I have a younger brother who lacks the motivation to get back into college; mostly because he isn’t sure what to do. He is super smart (4.0 GPA in High School) and is a really fast learner. He is really good at:

Math
Computers
Art
Video Games
Music

So far I suggested he go into a graphic design program, something involving creating web sites or video games or iPhone applications. What other areas could he look into?

It seems there are a lot of careers out there, but they don’t get discussed in High School. They only like to talk about doctors, lawyers, teachers and cops. They fail to mention “hidden” jobs like retail buying, networks admin, estate manager, etc….

I think my brother would be a good fit in the world of technology, but I’m not sure what other ‘hidden’ jobs are out there involving art and computers.

Graphic design pretty much sums it up.

But if he is REALLY good at graphic design, as well as computer science, he can get into video game design. Considering all the things hes good at, it sounds like there is a lot he can venture into.

The problem is with motivation. He shouldn’t just quit college because he doesn’t know what to do, its not a good enough answer. I went into college not knowing fully what i was going to do. I picked out Electrical Engineering, because i was good at math and computers. Only until the last quarter of school, i figured out that I wanted to follow through with a career path matching my degree. Im finding out what I want to do, and im looking forward to going back to school to learn a few more trades. Dont let uncertainty bring your brother down, he should embrace it, then use it to figure out what he wants to do later. He has his whole life to figure out what he wants to do, but doing nothing will not amount to anything.

Weight Loss Benefits Need to Be Focused Upon Right Now

Weight loss benefits tend to be viewed in the long term as opposed to the short term. We know that if we were to lose weight we would feel slimmer sometime in the future; we would feel healthier and more full of energy. We would look better and be able to wear smaller sizes in clothes. But how do these weight loss benefits relate to us now, in this very moment?

Similarly we know that the long term effects of losing weight include a decreased likelihood of cancer, diabetes, asthma and so on. But how do we feel about these benefits of weight loss right now?

The answer of course is that we don’t feel these health benefits now; they are as distant from our minds as our expectation of winning the lottery is at the time your ticket is purchased. And therefore these very real and proven future health benefits of weight loss do not provide motivation to lose weight. A thought which has no accompanying emotion has no effect. You have to FEEL the effect of those weight benefits NOW for them to become a motivating force in your quest to lose weight now.

This is why sometimes to lose weight very quickly at the beginning of a diet is a powerful motivating force and predictor of successful weight loss in the long term. Conversely, it can also explain why so many people fail to lose weight as slower weight loss can feel so slow that you do not notice any benefits at all. But the same weight loss programs or methods do not work for everyone. We are all unique and have to focus upon our individual weight loss benefits.

What can you do to bring those long term benefits forward in your mind and see and feel them more clearly right now? For example, if you are overweight and your excess weight is placing stress upon your bones and muscles, you might like to consciously place more awareness upon how your body feels; the simple act of connecting the real pain which you experience now with the knowledge of being overweight can trigger your motivation to lose weight right now. But to keep this motivational effect you have to remain aware of your levels of pain, and relief from pain, as you begin to lose weight. As you feel less pain, this immediate benefit serves to motivate you to keep on losing more weight.

For most of us however, we do not have this immediate feedback in terms of feeling less pain. We still need to experience immediate weight loss benefits to keep our motivation high. We can do this by utilizing our imaginations. You might wonder how this helps, but please bear with me whilst I explain the key role which visualization plays in successful weight loss programs.

When you dream you find yourself vividly imagining things and you experience an immediate emotional reaction, don’t you? Night mares are of course the ultimate example of the immediate and intense emotional experience one has when events are vividly seen in your imagination. Those feelings are undeniably felt RIGHT NOW.

Our innate ability to visualize enables us to experience a powerful emotion STRAIGHT AWAY. In a night mare the emotion is negative and scary. But you could intentionally visualize yourself slim and healthy, having lost weight, feeling sexy and looking fantastic. The more vividly you imagine yourself losing weight and feeling sexy, sassy, slender or slim, the more positive emotional energy you will experience; this is the fuel which motivates successful weight loss.

As you visualize yourself slim you bring those long term benefits forward in time, right into the forefront of your mind and so you feel your weight loss benefits right now. You can make your visualizations and emotional fuel more powerful by employing hypnosis.

Hypnosis provides access to your subconscious mind and also frees up your creative juices. Your imagination will thus flow more freely and your visualizations will become more vivid and powerful. Your weight loss benefits inevitably become a powerful magnetic force which pulls you forward to where you want to be – slim, healthy, sexy and happy.

Making Videos For Online Video Sites Like YouTube – Safety Tips You Should Know

—-> Watch the 2010 Football Season Online Download (latest version)

Do you enjoy creating short videos or motion pictures? If you do, you will love land sites like YouTube, Google Video etc.. YouTube and like are on line telecasting partaking web sites that lets net exploiters, like you, upload videos that they got to the internet site, where they can be watched by others. Although it is playfulness and exciting to create and share your ain televisions, you will desire to expose some circumspection when doing indeed. Sending tvs on YouTube and like can be unsafe, specially if improperly done. That is why it is suggested that you constantly hold cyberspace prophylactic in the back of your mind, when making your You Tube Google videos.

Maybe, the most of import base hit top that you necessitate to think of is to protect your indistinguishability. You will desire to forbear from citing your name in your on line videos, specially your full epithet. You will besides desire to forbear from referring your speech in any of your Google, YouTube and vimeo videos etc.. While you may cogitate that referring the city or town that you live in is o.k., equally long as you don’t give your street address, you may desire to rethink doing indeed. There are a pack of cyberspace exploiters who are resourceful ; with the correct info, they can easy find out important information about you, including where you live.

One of the grounds why YouTube is hence democratic, away from the fact that you can watch or upload pics to the You Tubing land site free of charge, is the fact that you can place, go forth remarks, or talk about YouTube telecastings with other cyberspace exploiters. If you verbalise with sure fellow members plenty you may end up developing a close online friendly relationship with them. Stock still, it is reded that you go along the antecedently observed base hit tip in mind ; do not give out any of your personal entropy. Whenever you apply the cyberspace, whether you are habituating YouTube or not, you ask to think of that it is hard, if not unimaginable, to swan who is riding behind the computer display on the other ending of your conversation. Disregarding what online substitutions take place, you will desire to protect your identicalness.

When it comes to internet users further exploring you, many on line telecasting submitters question why anyone would do such a thing. While different souls have different needs, you should forever get into that those motivations are not in your best pursuit. As said above, different cyberspace users have different needs, but one thing that looks to propel them is seductive or attractive looking cyberspace exploiters. Yet if you are making a television web log or a drollery skit, you will desire to hold a close middle on your show. Naturally, you will desire to look your best, but you desire without doubt not to take it to a fault far, as many can misread your aims ; possibly setting you in hurts way.

—-> Stream Movies (latest version)

It is likewise apprized that you be careful with what you mail on line, if you are stimulating a video of yourself and your quakers. You necessitate to make sure that all video stars know your purposes of branding the TV for partaking in on YouTube or any of the other on line television websites. If you have a TV that you snapped frankly, you need to utilise your best judgement. You desire to be cautious of impressing on anyone’s privateness, as it may not exclusively chew over negatively on you, but it may besides shoot down you in hot water. It is too proposed that you forbear from sending clips of moving picture shows, television shows, or music tvs that you do not have rights to. This is a infraction of right of first publication. In most cases, your YouTube TV will only be forced, but, in rare representatives, you may be faced with action.

The antecedently adverted base hit tops are exactly a couple of of the many that you will require to keep in psyche, when piddling a video to upload on to the You-Tube, Google etc.. Altogether honestness, it is best if you exactly apply your best judgement. Should you experience uncomfortable doing something, like precisely creating a YouTube, Google or Vimeo video in the main, you are proposed to listen to your intestine, as it is oft the best signal of problem to come.

Motivation Key to Weight Loss Success

Nutrition experts agree that the foundation of healthy weight loss involves a well balanced, calorie restricted diet and physical activity on most days of the week. Beyond these essential underpinnings are the motivational and psychological aspects of weight reduction which can mean the difference between success and failure.

Recent research released from The Journal of Medical Internet Research indicates that people who have lost weight were more than twice as likely to keep the weight off if they kept track of their progress using an online recording system. This is consistent with studies demonstrating that people lose weight more consistently and faster when they keep a dairy to record all foods eaten each day. Aside from diet and exercise, there are several important steps to help motivate your mind and hit your ideal weight target.

Step 1: The Power of Motivation to Lose Weight

People are much more likely to achieve and maintain their weight loss goal when they’re motivated by others. Losing weight significantly reduces the risk of sudden death from a heart attack, diabetes, stroke, dementia and many cancers, yet many people never attain or maintain their weight goal. The motivation provided by a friend or family member is the missing key to weight loss success for many.

Before beginning your weight loss journey, find somebody who will be able to encourage you when you hit the inevitable low point or plateau in your quest. The encouragement they’ll provide is invaluable, providing the strength and psychological boost to continue toward success. Interestingly, researchers have found that people who are financially incentivized to lose weight achieve a 70% success rate, making money a powerful source of motivation.

Step 2: Eat It, Track It and Don’t Cheat

Keeping a food dairy is a proven method that leads to permanent weight loss. When you record everything you eat, you’ll quickly find that most meals tip the scales at nearly twice the number of calories than you really need. Use a smaller 9″ plate and you’ll automatically eat 40% less without even noticing the difference.

Since many tracking programs break down fat, carb and protein ratios, you’ll find that highly refined carbs are blocking your road to success, as they cause wild blood sugar surges which tip your metabolism toward fat storage. Be honest with yourself by measuring and weighing foods, and enter them to your log either before or immediately after eating.

Step 3: Set a Food Clock

Working on the knowledge that it takes approximately 20 minutes from the time you begin eating until your brain registers the full signal, set a 20 minute food clock as you begin each meal. The idea is to eat slowly, chewing each bite so you can savor and enjoy the flavors of your food. If you hit the 20 minute mark and haven’t finished, then it’s time to stop.

While proper diet and sufficient exercise are an essential part of a successful weight loss plan, it’s also important to incorporate the resources of mind and motivation. Solicit the help of someone who can motivate you, providing encouragement when you stray off track, and use a menu diary and food clock. Get your mind in the game and you’ll find the added support you need to hit your ultimate weight loss goal, and keep it off for life.

Can you rate these lyrics (it’s short)?

Please, on a scale of 1-10…

My flow is straight illness, you wish it was contagious
Rock-solid lyrics, to last through the ages
But these other rap cats, baseless and faceless
Just mass-produced robots, they all sound the same
Got these pups locked in cages, while they steady gettin wages
“G’s” forgot the ABC’s, neglecting hip-hop’s basis
You gotta go subterranean, just to find any traces
Of what was and will never be, until we make some changes
But it’s not up to me, it’s controlled by the labels
Full of greed, for the green, the only motivation
So things remain the same, unless we join in collaboration
Like an operation team, to give our music a facelift
Call the radio stations and request the underrated
Educate the young’n’s, who lack appreciation
For true lyrical art, not these finger-paint paintings
Just catchy beats and hooks with no artists, just entertainers
Feel free to provide any constructive criticism.

Guitar Pro 5 Full Version Free Download

Specifically, I’ll cover the main requirements, which are discipline, starting slowly and not giving in.Guitar Pro 5 Full Version Free Download After you’re done with this article you should be able to with consistent practise and dedication start your journey to learning the guitar.

Discipline is of the utmost importance is you wish to play a guitar well. You should set a time to practise everyday, say 5 pm for 30 minutes and stick to it. Avoid missing any session unless you have no other choice. If you do have to skip a session, then reschedule it as soon as possible.

By setting a schedule and sticking to it, you’ll discover that finding the motivation for practise comes far more readily. Once you have established playing the guitar as a habit then your learning should improve exponentially.

It would also be useful to cut down on distractions as much as possible. TV, internet, phone in fact anything unrelated to learning the guitar should be removed where it’s possible. It is all too easy to take a minute break to do something else and end up losing the entire session. However how should you approach practising the guitar in these sessions. At first the best advice is to start out slowly.

Play EXISTING riffs and patterns with speed and accuracy click here

Starting slowly is vital to learning the guitar. Many people try to play fast before learning about playing well. As with any skill you need to master the basics first. Once this is done the more complex stuff will be much easier to learn. Starting fast and trying to do difficult riffs, songs and so on will usually lead to bad habits. Remember it is easier to learn the right way to play than unlearn the wrong way.

Not giving up plays a huge role in learning to play the guitar. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither are good guitar players. Learning the guitar requires frequent repetition. When you are starting you must practise the basics until you have mastered them. Remember the person who practises hard can play easily. Repetition leads to improvement, we learn skills by observing others and by repeating them over and over.

As a beginner wishing to learn the guitar you would be wise the follow these simple steps. Develop discipline, practise slowly at first and don’t give up. Put these principles to use and with consistent practise and dedication most people can learn to play the guitar.

Motivation to finish writing my songs?

I have a problem. I can come up with killer riffs on the axe that I then transcribe to sheet-music (actually, Guitar-Pro 5).

Problem is (I’m probably not the only one who has this problem) I must have a database of about 50 unfinished songs, because I’m almost never motivated to finish writing them. I have written and finished about ten songs in the past, but I only finish my songs if I’m lucky and have an unexplained motivation to do so.

The reasons behind the fact I never finish my songs are 1- Writer’s Block and 2- I stumble upon an awesome song from another artist which inspires me to write a new song that is based on that one.

Help?

Well, I don’t know what writer’s block is but it’s all about experience. I have the same problem except I write good but I suck at guitar. For example, if someone close died, write it about how you felt and give it something mysterious like the name “Shades of Black” which might explain that u were hurt about the death that darkness inhabits you, something like that. If your the person that writes stuff like ‘Tallica, I don’t know if I can help you with that. Hope I helped.

Stevie Ray Vaughan

Early life

Stephen Ray Vaughan was born on October 3, 1954 at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas to Jim and Martha Vaughan. His brother, Jimmie Vaughan, is three years older. At age 7, Vaughan acquired his first guitar, a Sears toy guitar with only three strings. Among the first songs that he learned to play were hits by The Nightcaps, a Texas garage rock band that had a national hit in 1962 with “Wine, Wine, Wine.” In 1963, Vaughan got his first electric guitar, a hand-me-down from his brother.

Early career

Jimmie Vaughan’s friend, Doyle Bramhall, heard Stevie Ray Vaughan playing a song called “Jeff’s Boogie” by The Yardbirds, and was impressed. Bramhall would help Vaughan singing and songwriting development. In 1967, Vaughan first band, The Chantones, played an outdoor show at Robert E. Lee Park in Dallas and began to advance beyond school dances and private parties. During the summer of 1970, after falling into a barrel of grease while working for a fast food restaurant, Vaughan quit his job, formed his first relatively long-lasting band, Blackbird, and devoted his working life to music.

In 1971, Vaughan made his first studio recording, sitting in with a high school band called A Cast of Thousands for a compilation album named A New Hi. The two songs that were on the album showcased Vaughan’s early burgeoning talent. During Christmas vacation, he dropped out of high school and moved to Austin, Texas with Blackbird. Their home base was a nightclub on the outskirts of town called the Soap Creek Saloon. In late 1972, he joined a rock band called Krackerjack, but quit a few months later when the lead singer decided that the band should wear theatrical makeup on stage.

In March 1973, Marc Benno added Vaughan to his band the Nightcrawlers, which was recording an album in Hollywood for A&M Records. The recording featured Doyle Bramhall on the drums, along with the beginning of a songwriting partnership with Vaughan. The album was not released, however, and the band traveled back to Texas. A year later, he found a battered 1963 Fender Stratocaster at a music store in Austin. It would remain as his favorite guitar for the rest of his life.

In late December 1974, Vaughan joined a popular Austin band Paul Ray & the Cobras, averaging approximately five shows a week. The Cobras released a record and won “Band of the Year” in an Austin music poll. Three years later, Vaughan left the Cobras and formed Triple Threat Revue with vocalist Lou Ann Barton, W. C. Clark on bass guitar, Mike Kindred on keyboards, and Fredde “Pharoah” Walden on drums. Later, Jackie Newhouse replaced W. C. Clark on bass and Chris Layton replaced Walden on drums. Vaughan and Lou Ann renamed the band Double Trouble, though Barton left in 1980 to sing for Roomful of Blues. On December 23, 1979, Vaughan and Lenora “Lenny” Bailey were married between sets at the Rome Inn nightclub in Austin.

Double Trouble

Tommy Shannon, the former bassist in Krackerjack, replaced Jackie Newhouse in 1981. In July, the band played a music festival in Manor, Texas and a videotape of the performance was given to Rolling Stones drummer, Charlie Watts. Double Trouble then played a private party for The Rolling Stones at New York’s Danceteria nightclub. On July 17, 1982, Vaughan and Double Trouble played the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, the first unsigned act to perform at the event. A few in the audience started booing the loud band throughout their performance since the event was predominately acoustical music. Vaughan later met David Bowie and jammed with Jackson Browne after the show, during an after party which lasted for hours into the morning.

Bowie asked Vaughan to play lead guitar on his new album Let’s Dance. The album became Bowie’s best-selling album of his career. Bowie also invited Vaughan to go on his Serious Moonlight Tour. During the rehearsal period, Vaughan decided to attend the funeral of Muddy Waters and, thus, could not be found for 5 days. When David Bowie expressed to Stevie that he wanted him to come down a flight of stairs with a liitle dance routine while playing his guitar, Stevie realized that this was not his gig. He was not a “pop” artist and refused to rehearse dance numbers like one, soon after he quit the tour with David Bowie, and went back to focus on his music and career with Double Trouble.

Browne offered Vaughan time in his recording studio in Los Angeles free of charge, and the band accepted the offer in November 1982. In the spring of the following year, music producer John Hammond heard a tape of the band’s Montreux performance, and got the band a recording contract with Epic Records. Hammond is credited with discovering Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan, among others. On June 13, 1983, the recordings in Browne’s studio morphed into Texas Flood, Vaughan and Double Trouble’s debut album, and was released to glowing reviews, selling over half a million units. Along with making an appearance on Austin City Limits, readers of Guitar Player magazine voted Vaughan as “Best New Talent” and “Best Electric Blues Guitar Player”, with Texas Flood as “Best Guitar Album”.

On May 15, 1984, Couldn’t Stand the Weather was released and hit number 31 on the Billboard charts. In October 1984, Vaughan and Double Trouble performed at Carnegie Hall. To celebrate his thirtieth birthday, Vaughan brought along an all-star supporting band, including Dr. John on keyboards and his brother, Jimmie, on guitar, who wore custom tailored velvet mariachi suits. His wife and parents flew in from Texas to share in his triumph. In November 1984, Vaughan won “Entertainer of the Year” and “Instrumentalist of the Year” at the National Blues Awards in Memphis, Tennessee.

Drug and alcohol addiction

On September 30, 1985, the band’s third album, Soul to Soul, was released, featuring new band member, Reese Wynans, on keyboards. It became their third gold album and went to number 34 on the Billboard charts. In July 1986, the band recorded shows in Austin and Dallas for their fourth album, Live Alive. On August 27, 1986, Vaughan’s father, Big Jim Vaughan, died of Parkinson’s disease. In late September 1986, Vaughan became ill while on tour in Ludwigshafen, Germany. He managed to make it through three more shows with his illness. He was then admitted into a hospital in London before he was flown to a rehabilitation center in Atlanta, Georgia . Among his addictions were extensive cocaine use and an addiction to Crown Royal whiskey. After being released clean and sober, Vaughan’s songs took on a theme of dealing with recovering from substance abuse. Songs such as “Tightrope” and “Wall of Denial”, were written by Stevie Ray Vaughan and fellow musician Doyle Bromhill.

Recovery

Vaughan struggled through two more concerts, though the last thirteen dates on the tour were canceled while Vaughan was admitted to a hospital in London. He emerged clean and sober in Atlanta, Georgia. Tommy Shannon also came out clean and sober while in Austin. Live Alive was released on November 15, 1986.

In the spring of 1987, MTV broadcast the band show in Daytona Beach, Florida as part of its spring break coverage. Vaughan also appeared in the movie Back to the Beach, performing “Pipeline” with Dick Dale. He also appeared on B.B. King Cinemax television special with Eric Clapton, Albert King, Phil Collins, Gladys Knight, Paul Butterfield, Chaka Khan, and Billy Ocean. Later that year, Vaughan filed for divorce from Lenny.

In 1988, Vaughan appeared with Stevie Wonder on an MTV special called Characters. Double Trouble also headlined a concert at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The show, featuring jams with Katie Webster, Albert Collins, and B.B. King, was filmed for a Showtime special called Coast to Coast. Vaughan’s divorce from Lenny was finalized toward the end of the year.

On January 23, 1989, the band performed at an inauguration party in Washington, D.C. for George H. W. Bush. The band’s fifth album, In Step, was released in June, and went on to win a Grammy Award for “Best Contemporary Blues Recording”.

In the spring of 1990, Vaughan and his brother recorded an album together, one that would feature the music they had grown up with. They recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis and were produced by Nile Rodgers. The brothers agreed to name it Family Style. That summer, Vaughan and Double Trouble went on tour with British soul singer Joe Cocker, touring places like Alaska and the Benson & Hedges Blues Festival.

Death

To complete the summer portion of the “In Step” tour, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble played two shows on August 25 and 26 at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, WI, while on tour with Eric Clapton.

For travel to the next venue, the tour manager reserved four helicopters to circumvent congested highway traffic. In very dense fog, the helicopters, not certified for flight under instrument flight rules (IFR) lifted off at 12:40 A.M. Just past the lift-off zone was a 300-foot hill. Vaughan’s helicopter pilot was unfamiliar with the area, and did not climb to sufficient altitude immediately after take-off. Vaughan’s helicopter crashed into the hill.

According to the findings as reported by the National Transportation Safety Board, the cause of the accident was determined to be inadequate planning by the pilot, and failure to attain sufficient altitude to clear an obstacle. Fog and haze, as well as the rising terrain were listed as contributing factors. All occupants including Vaughan, the pilot and three members of Eric Clapton’s travel group were killed on impact.

On August 31, 1990, funeral services were held for Vaughan at Laurel Land Memorial Park in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Texas. Brother Jimmie, mother Martha, and girlfriend Janna were in attendance. Among the mourners were Stevie Wonder, Buddy Guy, Dr. John, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, and Nile Rodgers.

The 1991 album The Sky Is Crying was the first of several posthumous Vaughan releases to achieve chart success. Jimmie Vaughan later co-wrote and recorded a song in tribute to his brother and other deceased blues guitarists, titled “Six Strings Down”. Bonnie Raitt’s 1991 album Luck of the Draw was dedicated to him. Many other artists recorded songs in remembrance of Vaughan, including Eric Johnson, Tommy Emmanuel (the song Stevie’s Blues), Buddy Guy and Steve Vai (“Jibboom” on the album The Ultra Zone, 1999) and guitarist Wayne Perkins (“Big Stratocaster”, from the album Rambling Heart). Stevie Wonder included a song on his 1995 live album Natural Wonder titled “Stevie Ray Blues”. On the album, Wonder refers to the song as “Stevie Ray Vaughan Blues”.

Musicians such as John Mayer, Robert Randolph, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Colin James, Jonny Lang, Los Lonely Boys, Mike McCready, Eric Johnson, John Petrucci, and Doyle Bramhall II have cited Vaughan as an influence.

In 1991, Texas governor Ann Richards proclaimed October 3, Vaughan’s birthday, to be “Stevie Ray Vaughan Day.” An annual motorcycle ride and concert in Central Texas benefits the Stevie Ray Vaughan Memorial Scholarship Fund.

In 1992, the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation released the Stevie Ray Vaughan Signature Stratocaster, which Vaughan had helped design. As of 2007, the model is still in production. In 2004, Fender also released a limited edition exact replica of “Number One”. The last guitar that Vaughan played before his death is on display in the Hard Rock Cafe in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. During that same year, Vaughan’s name is mentioned in Stephen King’s You Know They Got a Hell of a Band, a short story about a town populated by late music legends.

In 1994, the city of Austin erected the Stevie Ray Vaughan Memorial Statue at Auditorium Shores on Lady Bird Lake, the site of a number of Vaughan’s concerts. It has become one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions.

In 2000, Stevie Ray Vaughan was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. Stevie Ray Vaughan became eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008.

In November 2007, Fender Musical Instruments Corporation released a second tribute to Vaughan, an exact replica of his second beloved guitar: Lenny. This guitar was given to him by his wife Lenora (“Lenny”) on his 26th birthday and Vaughan was very fond of it. According to Fender, the original Lenny was a 1965 Strat that he saw in the window of a pawn shop that he was unable to afford. The guitar is sold with a strap, a case with Vaughan’s name embroidered in the fabric lining, a number of brochures and memorabilia and a leather bound certificate of authenticity.

In 2008, residents voted to rename Dallas’ Industrial Boulevard, with Vaughan’s name being one of the finalists alongside Stanley Marcus, Eddie Bernice Johnson, and Cesar Chavez.

Influences and style

Vaughan’s blues style was influenced by many blues guitarists. Foremost among them were Albert King, Otis Rush, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, and Jimi Hendrix. He was also strongly influenced by early blues-rock guitarist Lonnie Mack, who, according to Vaughan, “really taught me to play guitar from the heart”, Vaughan, who had idolized Mack since childhood,[citation needed] produced and played on Mack’s 1985 Alligator Records album Strike Like Lightning and covered “Wham!”, which was written by Mack, among others. Vaughan’s older brother Jimmie Vaughan has stated that Johnny “Guitar” Watson was the guitarist he and Vaughan studied the most. Vaughan also cited his brother as an influence.

Vaughan’s sound and playing style, which often incorporated simultaneous lead and rhythm parts, drew comparisons to Hendrix. Vaughan covered several Hendrix tunes on his studio albums and in performance, such as “Little Wing,” “Voodoo Child (Slight Return),” and “Third Stone from the Sun.” He was also heavily influenced by Freddie King,[citation needed] another Texas bluesman, mainly in the use of tone and attack; King’s heavy vibrato can clearly be heard in Vaughan’s playing.[citation needed] Another stylistic influence was Albert Collins.[citation needed] By utilizing his index finger as a pick la Albert Collins, he was able to coax various tonal nuances from his amplifiers. Vaughan also took considerable influence from jazz guitarists such as Kenny Burrell.[citation needed]

Main musical equipment

Guitars

Stevie’s main guitar was a cherished, beat-up 1963 Fender Stratocaster he dubbed Number One. He always referred to Number One as a ‘59. “1962″ was stamped on the neck, and “1963″ was written in the body cavity. On the back of the pickups, “1959″ was written on the back. The fretboard was a “veneer” board (curved on the underside), though all of Stevie’s other rosewood-board guitars were slab-boards (flat on the underside).

Number One was 100% stock, except for the five-way toggle switch and the lefty vibrato arm. Around 1980, Stevie needed to have his vibrato arm repaired, and a lefty vibrato was the only one in stock. Number One was the only guitar with a lefty vibrato arm. All of his other guitars had righty vibrato arms. In the last tone position, a push-push pot with a dummy coil was installed in order to cut down on the hum from the single-coil pickups. Different value capacitors were also added so the tone would stay close to the original sound.

Number One had a very big neck and it may have been the biggest neck of any Strat ever made. Fender rated the necks in terms of size either A, B, C or D, D being the largest. The body was made of alder. Stevie preferred his fretwire to be as tall as it possibly could.

All of his other main guitars were vintage Strats or Strat-style guitars.

“Yellow” a single-pickup yellow Strat that had belonged to Vince Martell of Vanilla Fudge.

“Lenny” a brown-stain finish on natural wood and a 1910 mandolin pickguard behind the bridge with a maple neck.

“Butter” a 1961 Stratocaster with a slab-board

“Main” a custom-made Hamiltone guitar, which had his name inlayed on the fretboard

“Charley” a white Strat with “lipstick” pickups made for Stevie by Charley Wirz, for whom Stevie wrote “Life Without You”

Strings and picks

His string gauges, high to low, were usually .013, .015, .019, .028, .038, .058. Sometimes he’d use a slightly lighter high E string, like a .012 or .011. He always tuned down one half step.

Picks were always Fender Mediums, played on the side, round edge.

Amplifiers

Stevie used a combination of amps, all running at the same time.

Two “Blackface” Fender Super Reverbs

150-watt Dumble Steel String Singer with a 4×12 Dumble bottom

200-watt Marshall Major head with a 4×12 Dumble bottom

Two “Blackface” Fender Vibroverb amplifiers (numbers five and six off production line), with one 15″ speaker, used to power a Leslie-type Fender Vibratone cabinet with a rotating speaker inside.

His amps were all upgraded to Electro-Voice speakers.

Pedals

He always used an Ibanez Tube Screamer, starting with the original first-issue 808, followed by the TS-9 and then the TS-10 Classic.

Vintage ’60s Vox wah-wahs

Vintage Dallas-Arbiter Fuzz Face

’60’s Tycobrahe Octavia

Starting with a Guitar.?

I really have a ton of free time that I need to spend on thing more worthwhile. I used to play a guitar when I was little but I stopped when we moved and forgot almost everything.
I need to know what I need, first of all. Acoustic, electric, or acoustic electric?
If i get acoustic electric what else do I need?

I really have motivation to learn but I don’t have anyone close who plays guitar so I’m on the Guitar books a lot ( and youtube).

Thanks.

http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?ItemPos=0&TempID=1&DepartmentID=1&STRID=14151&CategorySubID=675&CategoryID=675&BrandID=1480&CategorySubPriceRangeID=0&pagesize=10&SortMethod=3&Method=3&PriceRangeID=0&SearchPhrase=&Contains=&Search_Type=Department&GroupCode=&categorysubsearch=true

What do you think about this one?

I would go with an electric strat. The fretting on them is typically more forgiving than the acoustics, since the strings are a bit closer to the fretboard. Once you get back your basic skills, move on to an acoustic-electric (or just acoustic) to start practicing chords, strumming, and above all else, arpeggios (they get the chicks).

Also, try sites like ultimateguitar.com and programs like Guitar Pro (or Powertab) – they provide interactive lessons on honing your guitar skills and learning your favorite songs.

The Proper Care & Maintenance of Black Men

The woman who loves a black man has a special challenge. She will have to be diligent in her efforts to understand a man who often has difficulty understanding himself. It’s not that we black men are being purposely or intentionally elusive; many of us simply don’t know how notto be that way.

It’s part conditioning, part programming, and part choice. Black men enter relationships with a myriad of complex emotions which are often intertwined with unresolved childhood issues, unique socioeconomic obstacles to overcome, and the cumulative effects of racism.

By the time we are ready to “settle down,” our decision to do so is usually accompanied by trepidation. It’s not that we don’t want to commit; many of us just don’t know how to. Yes, we know conceptually what commitment means, but its definition is not reinforced by examples that we can see and emulate in our homes, our communities, in most of our friend’s relationships, or in our churches.

A random sampling of any urban radio station also reveals a subtle, yet insidious cultural affliction which undermines the value and respect for committed relationships: a gluttony of songs about being a player.

When black male teenagers inculcate these messages in their brains, it alters how they think about women, and how they view relationshipswith women. But they are not discouraged from listening to these types of songs. No one can do that; not even their parents who are usually trying to establish romantic relationships of their own, but more on that in a minute. At the very least, parents should encourage their young men to think about the misogynistic lyrics that they can recite better than the star spangled banner.

My many conversations with older black men about music in the 60s and 70s confirm one thing: the love song was alive and well back in the day. It was an integral part of the courtship strategy that black men used to “woo” women. Smokey Robinson, Barry White, and TeddyPendergrass supplied the soundtrack and the lyrics which influenced the romantic aspirations and psyches of young black men.

Babyface carried the torch in the 80s. After that, “booty calls,” “hook-ups,” and “friends with benefits” became – and still is – what the majority of Hip-Hop and R&B songs are about. You’d be hard-pressed to find a song which extols the virtues of being a family man, the love for one’s children, or a song that mentions the word “wife.”

Women have to view black men as computers. When they consider getting involved with a black man, they need to find out what programs the model of their computer comes loaded with. Ideally, you want a computer that’s equipped with the programs that cater to your needs, enable you to execute your daily functions, and fulfills your desires.

That’s not usually the case. Most women will have to add some programs, or do some reprogramming.

Because a successful relationship is really about having ongoing successful relations, the first area of concern -and undoubtedly the greatest challenge – is communication. “Black men don’t talk.” I’ve heard this before. I’ve never been accused of it, but I’m aware of it. What’s interesting is that women don’t say that black men don’t talk before they get into bed with them. Chances are he talks just as much now as he did before you became lovers. The only difference is that you are listening to (and viewing) him differently. With your new level of intimacy, you have a stronger need (and desire) to connect with him verbally, not just sexually.

He doesn’t feel the same way.

Yes he pursued you. Yes he expressed his desire efficiently and convincingly in the beginning, but once in a relationship, black men tend to retreat to safety. It’s part of our conditioning. The vulnerability that we feel is juxtaposed with the strength (a.k.a “swagger”) that we superficially display. Unfortunately, we don’t know when to drop it, or display it in a different manner (e.g., with compassion, tenderness, or empathy). Have you ever heard someone say, “He’s got a compassionate swagger?” Of course not. Swagger is all about confidence and strength. It protects us from other men, and makes us desirable to women. We just have to be programmed to know when it’s appropriate and safe to be swaggerless.

Because black men don’t talk openly and freely about the issues that affect them most (with their women or anyone else for that matter), they internalize a great deal of rage, anguish, and fear. Some manage it better than others, but we all have it to some degree. It stems from fragmented or non-existent relationships with our fathers, constantly being treated as perpetrators, and having to work two to three times harder than our white male peers to achieve the same success.

Unlike black women who benefit from the mental and emotional support of girlfriends, relatives, networks, or even co-workers, black men tend to be isolated – personally and professionally. On the surface, it would appear that black men are the kings of the jungle giving “pounds,” handshakes, and random hugs to random people. To any onlooker it would appear that they know everyone.

Nothing is further from the truth. We thrive in the area of social status because we often lack status in other areas; the areas that count the most. Publicly, our social persona helps us maintain the appearance of being someone, and being liked. It also fortifies the illusion of our swagger.

Privately, we go through it. Black women have their mothers to call for reassurance and direction which they can draw strength and exemplification from on a wide range of topics. Black men have a longing for their father’s guidance, and a desire to be connected with other men to receive emotional support, but it’s not to be.

Presenting one’s self in a weak, needy, or distressed light to another black man obliterates the perception (a.k.a “a front”) which we black men work hard to create, and even harder to uphold. It makes the creation of a black male support system exceedingly and unnecessarily difficult. So we suffer alone to avert judgment.

For the black woman who is in a relationship with a black man, know that he does not experience – nor does he see – the world the way that you do. You were embraced both socially and professionally before we were. You’ve never been considered a threat, and you’ve received more opportunities as a result. The world that your black man lives in can feel like an uphill race. A good woman (i.e., a woman who understands her man and how to positively motivate him) can help a black man embrace his struggles, and not feel victimized by them.

Statistics show that black men are lagging far behind black women in education, professional accomplishments, starting businesses, and executive advancements. Yes, in the words of Aretha Franklin, “sisters are doin’ it for themselves,” but they are doing it alone.

African-Americans have the lowest marriage rate out of all demographics. African-American women are three times as likely to never marry as their white counterparts – which has to be a contributing factor in 70 percent of black children being born out wedlock. Black men often feel displaced. They don’t see their place or their role in their homes when their women achieve the level of self-sufficiency that they have in the last decade.

Being in a relationship with a black man who feels displaced or undervalued is tough. What’s even tougher is reprogramming black men to see their own value; the value they hold to their women, and to their families. Any woman who is successful can’t help but to feel the urge to say, “Get it together and make it happen for yourself – I did!”

This phrase works better: “Get it together and make it happen for yourself. I know you can do it – your family is counting on you!” Sometimes that’s precisely what’s needed. Who else is more qualified to tell him this than his woman? Tread with caution and employ diplomacy though; black men have hypersensitive egos underneath their bravado which is why they are hesitant to commit to marriage, the arena where all of the fronting comes to an end.

The black men who do marry are apparently a special breed. According to published reports by the U.S. Census Bureau, 45 percent of black men and 42 percent of black women have never been married. Of the black women who do get married, 52 percent of them will marry by age 30, compared to 81 percent of white women who are married at the same age.

In spite of that, 65% of never-married black women have children, double that of white women. 22% of never-married black women with incomes over $75,000 have children, which is 10 times that of white women. 85% of black children do not live in a home with their fathers. With the reality of these statistics, the magnitude of the problems concerning the proper care and maintenance of black men can’t be overlooked by the women who love them. These problems also can’t be overlooked by the black women and families that are plagued by them.

At the root of so many of the problems which afflict black men is self-love. From self-love comes self-respect. From self-respect comes honor and pride in who you are; not what you do or how much money you make. Self-love and self-worth are delicately intertwined.

Women can love their black men to death, but if they don’t love themselves, they will never feel deserving and worthy of the love and the life they are blessed to have. Black men must be reprogrammed to use self-love as a foundation upon which a greater love of life, and love for others can be built. Self-love and swagger may look the same from afar, but one emanates from the inside. Now you will be able to tell the difference when up close.

why is it worse to kill someone because of race than anything else?

I can walk up to a black man and stab him in the face, and when asked why, say because I hate black people. I could now get convicted of a “hate crime”

If i walk up to another white man and stab him in the face, and when asked why, say because I just felt like it. I would just get convicted of a “normal crime”

why is this? I mean does it REALLY matter the motivation behind it? in the end, it was still a human being who’s life was lost. Aren’t you technically putting a value on a person because of the color of their skin, making it seem like it was worse to murder them because they are black

Crimes should not be punished based on motivation to do said crime of the stipulations like color of skin, just on the final result, aka how severe the crime was

Killing is wrong, no matter what color. People like Sharpton MAKE it about color, to make it look like white are better than blacks. Both are the same, & should be treated the same.
